Privacy policy

In short: Porchgeist collects nothing about you. It has no account, no server of its own, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. What it needs stays on your iPhone or iPad, and it talks only to your own Hue Bridge on your home network and to Apple's App Store.
Who is responsible
Porchgeist is made by Stefan Sommer, SCS IT, Denmark. You can reach us at scs@scsit.dk.
What stays on your device
- Your settings: the light order, the sync, the safety and brightness limits, auto mode and the background.
- The pairing with your Hue Bridge: its address and the keys it gave Porchgeist, kept in the iOS Keychain.
- Sounds you add: copies of the audio files you pick, in the app's own folder.
- Whether you own Porchgeist Full, as the App Store reports it.
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. It's included in your device's own backup (iCloud or your computer) if you have backups turned on, under Apple's terms. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Your Hue Bridge and lights
Porchgeist talks directly to your Hue Bridge on your home network: it pairs with it, reads its lights, entertainment areas and motion sensors, and streams the light shows to it. This never leaves your home network and never goes through us. That's why iOS asks whether Porchgeist may find devices on your local network.
The camera
Only when you use Find the lights, Porchgeist uses the back camera for about ten seconds while your lights blink, to see where each one is. The picture is worked out on the device. One still picture is shown on screen so you can tap the door. It isn't saved, and it's never sent anywhere. Porchgeist doesn't use the microphone.
Purchases
Porchgeist Full is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and your payment details under Apple's privacy policy; we never see them. The app only asks the App Store whether Full is owned.
Children
Porchgeist collects no personal data from anyone, children included.
This website
porchgeist.scsit.dk sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Like any website, the server and Cloudflare, which carries the traffic, briefly keep technical logs (such as the address a request came from, the time and the page) to run and protect the site.
Your rights
As Porchgeist holds no data about you, there's nothing for us to show, correct or delete. If you have a question about privacy, write to scs@scsit.dk. You can also complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet.
Changes
If Porchgeist ever starts handling data differently, this page will say so before the app does, with a new date at the top.
